You’re Mixing It Wrong: Live N Local Workshop Aug 2016

1st Aug, 2016
by Simon Moro

LIVE N LOCAL WORKSHOP OUTLINE

Introduction

The workshop will commence with an overview of the topics covered and expected outcomes for attendees.

Hear and feel the difference

A/B examples of the same session being mixed differently to demonstrate the difference a mix can make to the overall impact of a song.

Why do you sound better live, and how to translate this in a recording?

A common challenge is capturing the live energy of a performance and making it translate in the recording. Explanations and solutions will be provided.

Creating space in a mix

With near-unlimited track counts, and months to record layer upon layer, creating space in a mix can become challenging. Common tools including reverb, pan, delay, and level will be discussed in the context of creating space.

Deconstructing a mix

An attendee’s track will be re-mixed before the workshop ready for a detailed walkthrough of the process undertaken to create better results.

Closing discussion/Questions

Open discussion about mixing, production and mastering.
