Mixing without the flight
Most of the records I mix arrive over the internet. The process is the same one I use in the room with an artist beside me: a brief, careful file preparation, a hybrid analogue mix, and revisions done together rather than by email ping-pong.
You keep your recording where you made it, send the files, and get back a mix from a purpose-built room, without booking a studio day in Melbourne. If you would rather be in the room, the in-person mixing page covers that.
Anywhere in Australia, any genre. Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, regional or overseas: the workflow does not change.
How it works
Send
Consolidated linear files of every track, all starting at bar one, at the sample rate and bit depth you recorded at. Add your rough mix and a reference or two. I send a short preparation guide once we have talked about the song, and my assistant can help if you get stuck.
Mix
Files are assessed, imported into Pro Tools, colour coded, labelled, gain-adjusted for analogue mixing and routed through the hardware in my room at The Avenue. Then I mix to the brief, referencing your rough where it helps.
Review
Mix Version 0 arrives through a private Trackbits link. Listen where you normally listen, take notes, and we go through changes together. Revisions can be live streamed so you hear each move as it happens.
Deliver
The final mix, an instrumental, and lead vocal and backing vocal stems, downloadable from your client login. Other stem combinations can be requested.
Price
$699 per song for the mix, plus $399 for the studio day, so 99% of the time $1098 all in, excluding GST. Extra revisions or stems $99 an hour.
Turnaround
Typically 7 working days from receiving your files to Mix Version 0, but that is a guide, not a guarantee. If Simon is deep in a big production it can be longer, and urgent jobs can sometimes be fitted in, so talk to him about your deadline before you send anything.
Revisions
The same as in-person mixing: one or two rounds are included, which is typically enough. Revisions can be live streamed so you hear each change as it happens. Further rounds are at the hourly rate.
